Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Koi Platforms Inc. (“Koi”, “we”, “us”) for using sieve: the website you're on, the interests interview, the recommendations, the library and Read feed, the collage tool, the AI text detector, and anything else we offer through it (together, the “Service”). By using the Service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and why. If you don't agree, please don't use sieve.

Who can use sieve

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age for consenting to online services where you live, if that's higher). If you're under 18 you need a parent or guardian's permission. If you use sieve on behalf of a company or other organization, you confirm you have authority to bind it to these terms, and “you” includes that organization.

What sieve is

sieve asks you about what you're into, builds an interest profile from your answers, and recommends places on the internet that match it. With an account you can save recommendations to a library and read what those sources publish from inside sieve. The Service is free today; if that changes we'll tell you before charging anything.

We're a small team building quickly. Features may change, break, or be removed, and we may suspend the Service for maintenance or for good, at our discretion. We'll try to give notice for anything that affects data you've saved.

Your account

Accounts are created by signing in with Google; sieve has no passwords of its own. You're responsible for keeping your Google account secure and for everything that happens under your sieve account. Tell us right away at gavin.lifrieri@usekoi.com if you think someone else has used it. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms.

Text messages

The program. Signed-in users can opt in to “sieve daily stories”, a text-message program run by Koi Platforms Inc.. When you add a mobile number we text you a one-time code to confirm the number is yours; once it's verified, we send you one text a day with your day's picks. We may also text you about your number or the program itself (for example if delivery starts failing). Nothing else is sent to the number, and no marketing from anyone else. The program is described in full, with the opt-in form and sample messages, at internetsieve.com/sms.

Consent. You opt in by entering your number in sieve and tapping “Text me a code”. Texts are optional: you can use every part of sieve without adding a number, and agreeing to texts is never a condition of creating an account or getting recommendations.

Frequency and cost. Up to 1 recurring message a day, plus one-time verification codes when you add or change a number. Message and data rates may apply; check with your carrier.

Reply STOP to cancel. Text STOP to any message from us and we'll send one confirmation and then stop. You can also remove or change your number at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes the number too.

Reply HELP for help. Text HELP to any message from us, or email gavin.lifrieri@usekoi.com, and we'll get back to you.

Carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery depends on your carrier and device, and messages may not reach you everywhere. Supported carriers include the major US carriers; texting outside the US may be limited.

Your number. You confirm the number you add is yours and you'll tell us (or remove it in Settings) if it changes hands. How we handle your number is described in our Privacy Policy: it's used only for this program and never shared with third parties or affiliates for their marketing.

Acceptable use

Use sieve the way it's meant to be used. Don't:

  • Break the law, or use sieve to help anyone else break it.
  • Scrape, crawl, bulk-download, or automate access to the Service beyond what a person would do with a browser, or resell it.
  • Probe, bypass, or interfere with our security, rate limits, or the infrastructure the Service runs on.
  • Access, or try to access, another person's account, interview, or library without their permission.
  • Submit content that's unlawful, harassing, or that you don't have the right to share, or use the Service to send spam or distribute malware.
  • Reverse engineer the Service or use it to build a competing recommendation product.

Your content

You keep whatever rights you have in what you give us: your interview answers, the sources you save, and the text you paste into the detector. You give Koi a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, reproduce, and display that content solely to operate, secure, and improve the Service, for as long as it's in your account plus the time it takes us to delete it. You're responsible for having the right to share anything you submit.

Share links. You decide whether to share your results. If you do, anyone with the link can view your interest profile and recommendations, and we can't control where the link travels.

Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we can use them without owing you anything.

Recommendations, AI output, and third-party content

Recommendations and interview responses are generated with the help of AI models. They can be wrong, out of date, or simply not to your taste. Treat them as suggestions, not advice, and check anything you rely on.

The newsletters, videos, podcasts, posts, and images that sieve links to or previews belong to the people who made them. We don't control that content, don't endorse it, and aren't responsible for it; when you follow a link you're on a third-party site under its own terms. If you own content that appears in sieve and want it removed, email gavin.lifrieri@usekoi.com.

AI text detector. The detector produces a probabilistic estimate that a passage was machine-written. It is not proof and can be wrong in both directions. Don't use a score as the sole basis for a decision about a person, such as accusing someone of using AI or grading their work.

Our intellectual property

The sieve name, wordmark, design, software, and the interview and recommendation experience are owned by Koi or our licensors and protected by intellectual-property laws. These terms don't give you any right to them beyond using the Service as they permit.

Ending things

You can stop using sieve whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account by emailing gavin.lifrieri@usekoi.com. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if we're required to by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive (your content license for data still being deleted, our intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and disputes) survive termination.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KOI DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ACCURATE, UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY RECOMMENDATION OR DETECTOR SCORE WILL BE CORRECT.

Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KOI AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you.

Indemnity

You'll defend and indemnify Koi against claims, damages, and reasonable expenses (including legal fees) arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these terms or of someone else's rights.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state in which Koi Platforms Inc. is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located there. Before filing anything, please email gavin.lifrieri@usekoi.com and give us 30 days to work it out with you informally; most things can be.

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms we'll update the date at the top. If a change is material we'll say so on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use sieve after a change means you accept the new terms.

The fine print

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Koi about the Service. If part of them is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to an affiliate or a successor to the Service.
